És cert, com deia el dia 8 de desembre l’admirada Anna Grau a la contraportada del diari Avui, que la intel·ligència consisteix en acceptar que de tant en tant et fotin. I hi afegia unes frases importantíssimes: “la gent seriosa pateix només quan objectivament la foten; els malparits, per tots els cops que els podrien arribar a fotre. No ho sembla, però no és vida. Entre altres coses, perquè la vida és una cursa de fons”.

Last week the national and state press in general, and the daily Avui particularly with the article “The equality according to Villepin", published last December 2, was echoed of the proposed measures by the French prime minister, Dominique de Villepin, to confront the crisis of the “banlieues”. Villepin centered its speech in two environments: the education and the occupation. A speech, in my opinion, that promises to give a push toward before in the improvement of the social situation of the country. Now well, we expect that this assembly of attractive intentions will remain not only in words, above all keeping in mind that there is not any reform of the budgets by the 2006 that accompany it.

Political Anthology from Jordi Pujol

The published work of the President Jordi Pujol fulls already many volumes. A compilation of thousands of pages that contains the political ideology of that one who was for 24 years chosen Prersident of Catalunya. It was done, therefore, necessary that someone started the task to work with this material. This is what has done the publisher of this anthology, Albert Alay. Although just as he says in the appointment of Goethe that heads the book -“we mark in a book the parts that seems us that they refer us”- the certain thing is that the memorable selection that has carried out is presented us really very wise and useful. Not only by the selection, but by the work invested in its presentation. Alay gathers 1.221 extracts of texts, published or not, of Jordi Pujol, so much facts in Catalunya, as in Spain and the foreigner. Each fragment is numbered and in chronological order. At the end, an index by themes, makes the book an authentic tool of consultation. The diversity of treated themes leaves patent the extraordinary amplitude of know-how and the deep political culture of Jordi Pujol. And his great idealism along with a clear realism, combination non current among the politicians. The book can also be read, to leaf through, with the security to find some text that will interest us. As an example: “The welfare state…cannot be the result of an attitude of renunciation of the own effort and of the own responsibility…” (1997).

The Communitarian Network
|

|
The Communitarian Nework, with headquarters in Washington, was founded the 1993 by initiative of the prestigious sociologist Amitai Etzioni, who is also the former director. It is a transnational association of organizations, academic and individuals that, without spirit of gain, they watch for the preservation of the individual rights of the people and for the construction of a responsible company based on the strengthening of the political, moral, and social values. The idea begun in the decade of the 80, when before the warning of the loss of values in the society according to the message from some sociologists, a group of intellectuals decided to promote a new philosophy of life that moved away of the traditional divisory line between right and left. What was proposed, at the end, was the creation of a new capable social system to protect the rights of the individual and to promote at the same time the collective responsibility. To diffuse its thought the foundation organizes days, finances investigations and publishes many working papers.
