Scandinavia revisited

Thirty to forty years ago the Scandinavian countries – especially Sweden - were a point of reference for many of us in Catalonia, for their advanced social system (known as the Welfare State), for their democracy, (Western, rather than left-wing as some wanted us to believe then) and for their economic growth.

"Copy-paste"

The authenticity ethics

The Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor, in the American edition of the trial - published first in Canada the 1991 with the title “The discomfort of the modernity”- defends the ethical principle of the priority of the values on the rights and of good on the justice. And he does it all leaving from the moral ideal of the individualism, supported by the authenticity . About these concepts, Taylor does an interpretation that rejects what he calls degraded and corrupted forms of the individualism egocentric that ignores everything that transcends and only seeks the own interest and welfare. This conception drives to the moral relativism and to the social fragmentation. On the other hand, Taylor believes that the man is gifted of an innate moral sense, nourished of meanings –horizons- such as nature, society or religion. Thus he understands the authenticity as a moral ideal where each one can work his self steem, but always in dialogue with the other. An authenticity that originates free and responsible man, that finds his identity in the identification with the community, and that is capable of proposing and of achieving common objectives. In the opposite side of the social fragmentation caused by the individualism, where people only is mobilized in defense of they’re own rights. A society taken by the culture of the not.
