Cohesion and coexistence according to Jordi Pujol

Cohesion and coexistence are achieved through teaching

It is to its credit that Catalonia has created a climate of frankly excellent coexistence, that the process of integration is underway, that it is a country in which people are happy to live. This is a great merit to the Catalan people.

Catalonia's tranquil and serene fortitude and constructive and creative strength are her greatest assets when it comes to gaining the recognition that Catalonia deserves.

The Catalan condition

Jordi Pujol with other citizens

Everyone who lives and works in Catalonia, and who wants to be so, is Catalan. That is to say, being Catalan is not determined by the past or by blood, but by the present and the future, by one's own choice to live together with others.

No one must be forgotten. One way of attaining our objective is to reject the notion of "immigrant". There can only be Catalans: people who have acquired the millennial Catalan tradition and have enriched it over the centuries with new heritages, people with plans for the future.

Violence has no place in nationalism

All nationalism must be based on positive attitudes and feelings, and must be carried out by peaceful means, in a spirit of unity and coexistence, respecting everything and everyone. Nothing can be built on resentment. Radicalism must be avoided at all costs.

We must preserve the memory of our men and women, their virtues, the principles they defended, the reality of the country we were and remain.
