Home > Jordi Pujol > Ideologue > Nationalism Nationalism according to Jordi PujolNationalism is the will to be what we are. So who are we? We are a language, a culture, a history, a law, a set of institutions and a social philosophy, that is, a nation. Humanism![]() The nation has a raison d'être in as far it helps the specific person, so that each man and women belongs to a country. There can be no nationalist excess of any sort when one is concerned with always placing the nation at the service of people. Nationalism is humanism; it is ethical. Moreover, it has ambitions to be a cult of freedom. This context of values enables the concepts of "people" and "nation" to acquire meaning. The people of Catalonia will only be strong if they preserve their way of life, their collective outlook, and their awareness of country, and if the country knows how to plan for the future. The nation changes with the passage of time. It is necessary to adapt to the new times, to reject the ailing cult of the past and inflexibility, but this must be achieved without losing our roots, without betraying our values. |
