Economic progress according Jordi Pujol

The first thing a country needs to move forward is an ideology of progress, not an ideology of archaic intellectual instruments. The progress of a country means progress on all fronts:

  • Economic growth
  • Investment in and outside the country and the creation of trade networks abroad
  • Encouragement for everything that implies innovation
  • Calls for a modern society with a universal outlook
  • Top priority to education
  • A policy of industrial land-use
  • Support for the country's design and fashion industry, and general image

There is one essential element to progress: modernisation. The definitive step forward can only be made through modernisation.

Modernisation goes beyond economic progress

Modernisation is linked to economic progress but involves more than it. Not only must the Catalan economy be modernised, but our entire society as well. Modernisation involves the productive apparatus, education, cultural actions; it involves everything.

Nationalist thinking clamours for modernisation and internationalisation. We are fully aware that we are a small nation. Catalonia cannot be inward-looking because it would die if it were. Some believe that we nationalists seek to defend our nation by isolating ourselves. No, we seek precisely the opposite.
