Symbols according to Jordi Pujol

Lluis Companys

Despite their origin in the past, symbols explain the present. They enable us to experience almost physically the fact that a people is spirit and matter, past, present and project for the future.

The flag is the most cherished symbol, and not just because of its official nature, but rather because through it, often placing themselves in great peril and even mortal danger, countless Catalans have asserted their collective will to exist.

We often perform symbolic acts that are neither romantic nor sentimental; they are political, patriotic and are, above all, acts of national confirmation. They are deeds that return us to our roots, which are a source of energy and conviction for the Catalan people to carry on in the most effective way our task of building the country of Catalonia.
